Responsible travel in Vietnam — local communities and nature

Traveling in a Way That Gives Back

Vietnam's landscapes, culture, and communities are the reason people travel here — and the reason we work to keep our footprint as light as possible while our impact on local livelihoods stays real.

Responsible travel isn't a single certificate or checkbox for us — it's a set of ongoing decisions in how we build itineraries, choose partners, and brief travelers. Below is an honest look at what that means in practice, and how you can be part of it during your trip.

Supporting Local Communities

We prioritize locally owned guesthouses, family-run restaurants, and community-based homestays wherever quality and safety standards allow, so more of what you spend stays within the communities you visit. Our guides and drivers are hired locally and paid fairly, with no unpaid "commission shopping" stops added to itineraries.

Environmental Responsibility

We favor accommodation and cruise partners with credible environmental practices — waste reduction, water conservation, and responsible waste disposal, particularly in sensitive areas like Halong Bay and Phong Nha. We encourage travelers to carry reusable water bottles and provide guidance on reducing single-use plastic during the trip.

Wildlife & Animal Welfare

We do not include or promote activities involving captive wildlife entertainment, elephant riding, or unregulated animal encounters. Where wildlife viewing is part of an itinerary — such as boat trips through national parks — it follows a strict no-contact, no-feeding, respectful-distance approach.

Cultural Respect

Our guides brief travelers on appropriate dress and behavior before visiting temples, pagodas, and ethnic minority villages, and homestay visits are arranged in coordination with village representatives rather than unannounced drop-ins, to respect the daily life of host families.

Lower-Impact Transport Choices

Where practical, we build itineraries around train travel, cycling, and walking over domestic flights for shorter distances, and we consolidate transfers to reduce unnecessary driving distance across multi-day tours.

Fair & Transparent Partnerships

We work directly with local suppliers rather than layers of subcontractors, which allows for fairer pay to guides and drivers and more transparent pricing for travelers, without hidden margins stacked between you and the people delivering your trip.

Every Traveler Plays a Part

How You Can Help While You Travel

Responsible travel works best as a two-way effort. Here are a few simple habits our guides will also remind you of during your trip.

Carry a reusable water bottle — many hotels on our itineraries offer free refill stations.
Ask before photographing local people, especially in ethnic minority villages.
Dress modestly when visiting temples, pagodas, and religious sites.
Support local artisans by buying handicrafts directly from makers where suggested by your guide.
Avoid single-use plastic bags and straws where alternatives are offered.
Follow your guide's instructions around wildlife and protected natural areas.
